The city of Mendoza is located at the foot of the Andean mountains, where the highest summit of America is located, Aconcagua, with more than 6900 meters of height. This mountain is one of the main attractions of the area for climbers from around the world.
When it was discovered Mendoza, the settlers were surprised by the artificial canals created by the natives of the area, who discovered the way to improve the use of water in a very dry land. So Mendoza is an oasis city, with the same canals that use the waters of the Mendoza River, running through the streets and watering hundreds of trees, also planted to avoid water evaporation.
For this reason, one of the symbols of this beautiful city was created, the San Martín General Park, with species brought from different parts of the world. The trees have given their name to many streets and avenues in Mendoza, such as Los Plátanos and Las Palmeras. Within the city there are marked pedestrian circuits, so that visitors can walk through them and discover the wonderful gardens, parks and squares.
Mendoza also has great architecture and decorative elements brought from Europe, such as the great gates of England and reproductions of small horses from the Champs Elysees in France. There is also a monument in honor of the Andean Army on the top of the La Gloria hill, which has the best panoramic view of the city. On its slopes, there is a zoo.
The city has a small center of the city, full of beautiful cafes under the trees, where you can enjoy the exquisite cuisine of the area, with its sweet specialties. There are also fairs and craft markets, to enjoy with fruits, vegetables and local meats of the best quality. Some of them are the Mercado Central, the Palmares sidewalk, the Godoy Cruz and Guaymallén fairs.
This city is close to the ski resort of Los Penitentes, where visitors can enjoy skiing and snowboarding with the best quality of snow and different degrees of difficulty on its 17 tracks.
In the vicinity of the city, there are large valleys and wine caves. San Rafael is the most famous wine producer in the area, with excellent quality beverages, grown in the perfect dry climate for them. There are many excursions to discover these wonderful places and enjoy tasting a sample of the most exquisite wines of the area.
Near San Rafael there is also the Las Leñas ski resort, another ski center with excellent slopes and all the amenities that visitors need to enjoy the best snow for winter sports, with the beautiful sunny climate of Mendoza.
In the Valle Grande there is the Altue river and the Altue canyon. Here visitors can enjoy rafting and other nautical activities, such as swimming, windsurfing, fishing and sailing.
